Day 11 - Saturday, August 8, 2026

As it was a bit chilly that morning, I did not swim in the lake, instead, I visited the town of Most, where I did some grocery shopping and a bit of sight-seeing. Visible from town is a castle on a hilltop - I thought of going up to it, but decided against it.

The area around Most was pretty, but I did manage to get quite lost trying to cross a major highway, I was struggling through some unmarked dirt roads with lots of vegetation, so the going was quite tough, at least for a while. Eventually, I reached Bilina with a very pretty town square - I treated myself for a cake for all the troubles I´ve had so far. Somewhere outside town I met a fellow biker, who gave me some tips and told me that there was a pretty lake area not all too far, called Barbora. The sizable lake was in midst of a hilly area with forests and I had a nice swim, followed by a good rest. Someone had told me there would be excellent food at a local golf club, so I took a twenty-minute detour, only to be told that they were so busy they could not accommodate me. Darn! Later, I reached the town of Teplice, with a tower I climbed up to, in order to gain a good view of the surroundings.

On a rather busy road lined with a huge electric plant, I reached a quiet campground, where I retied for the night.

Well, it did sound as if I were slacking that day, didn`t it? My records indicate that I had ridden only 56 km, with a rather modest 400 meters of elevation.

Here is the deal: The presentation I was going to hold was scheduled for August 14, I still had to return to Vienna, prepare for it and travel to the Tokaj presentation - so I was about to end the first phase of my ride - probably that kept me from making a lot of progress.
